Our project

HABITAT is a small producers' cooperative of oil that is born in the year 2019. It was born as a local project dedicated to the promoting regenerative organic farmingto safeguard our natural, historical and social heritage. Joining the efforts of the farmers of the territory through a Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil Cooperative. Project promoted by the AlVelAl Association for the development of Europe's largest Ecosystem Restoration Plan.

Our farmers get a fair price for their organic crops in the Southeast Andalusia and Murcia (specifically the regions of the Altiplano Granadino, Los Vélez, Alto Almanzora and Northwest Murcia). and in this way we can continue our activity to stop the effects of desertification and depopulation in the territory.

More than ecological

Vision, mission and values

It is possible to restore nature, society and economy of the South-Eastern Altiplano by creating optimal conditions for local farmers (especially olive farmers) through cooperativism, fair market and regenerative agriculture.

To carry out our customer-oriented business activities with the highest quality, a fair trade relationship with the producers and a 4 Returns business model: Return on inspiration, on social capital, on natural capital and on financial capital.

To research, develop and market new products from the olive grove with an ecological base and with the differential of its capacity to regenerate the landscape.

Achieve a multiplier effect among farmers in the territory to create a healthy and resilient productive ecosystem in the face of climate change and desertification.

Becoming a reference for other projects with similar objectives.

  • Fair trade
  • Landscape Regeneration
  • 4 Returns
  • High-value, high-quality products
  • Excellence in management
  • Cooperation and commitment of farmers
  • Economics for the common good

Our commitment

We are a cooperative of small producers of regenerative organic EVOO. Our aim is to market Extra Virgin Organic Oil that regenerates soils and landscapes. Producing an oil of the highest quality and bringing it to your table from our cultivation.

Farmers

Farmers become aware of the need to adopt regenerative agriculture in order to avoid soil degeneration.

Crops

Crops provide more work and social wealth, and farmers and mills establish cooperative working strategies, strengthening the community and the common good.

Ecosystem

In the long term, the ecosystem will recover its natural balance, moving away from desertification and creating a healthy, balanced and productive landscape.

Marketing

The marketing of the products of regenerative agriculture helps to provide a glimpse of a prosperous future for the farms, increasing the financial capacity of local producers, creating a multiplier effect.

Climate change

In this way this territory will contribute to the fight against climate change, as regenerative organic farming has the potential to sequester CO2 from the atmosphere in the soil, capturing more water in the soil and promoting biodiversity.

Traceability of oil

We take care of the filtering, packaging and marketing of Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil from the Regenerative Agriculture of the Alvelal territory.

Harvest

The farmers will take the harvests to the nearest oil mill participating in the project (which will be certified organic). Generally, the oil will be early in the season to ensure the best quality.

Commitment to the landscapes of the Geopark

The commercialisation of Habitat is the best guarantee to avoid the degradation of the incredible landscapes of Southeast Spain, declared a Geopark by UNESCO.

  • Farmers All the farmers of the HABITAT cooperative are located in the semi-arid areas of Southeast Spain, in the provinces of Almeria, Granada and Murcia.
  • Olivos In this area the olive trees are cultivated on dry land following traditional practices.
  • Environmental conditions This large area of more than 1,000,000 hectares has extreme climatic characteristics: altitude, high temperatures in summer and freezing cold in winter, low rainfall, etc. These environmental conditions give the oil its specific and unique aromas.
  • Organic certificates All Habitat farmers are certified organic and meet the regenerative agriculture criteria of the AlVelAl Association and the sustainability criteria of the 4 Returns of the Commonland Foundation.
  • Regeneration The extreme climate, combined with the effects of climate change, exposes the territory to desertification; in contrast, the use by farmers of these regenerative techniques in olive groves maintains soil fertility and limits the damaging effects of desertification.
  • Oil Climate change has led to the harvest being brought forward to November, before the frosts and winter snows, improving the characteristics of the oil.
